He was doing a high alpha pass and it seems like he might have lost the right engine.  The newer seats are designed to fire "up" without regard to the attitude of the aircraft at ejection.  I.E. if the aircraft is inverted, the seat will clear the aircraft and then fire "up" so as to not eject the aircrew into the ground.  Some more info:
