81-year-old pilot, Robert Syme, was severely injured during a single-engine plane crash Saturday night in Westfield Township, Medina County, he remains in the Critical Care Unit at Akron City Hospital.
Officials say the prominent Medina County businessman was attempting to land his Piper Cub Crafters CC18-180 aircraft at Crazy Bob’s Airport on Westfield Road when it crashed, at approximately 7:40 p.m. Saturday, after the landing gear got stuck in the mud, causing it to overturn on the grass runway. Syme was the only person on-board.
Syme owns Crazy Bob's Airport (2O14) in Westfield Center, Ohio, near Seville in Medina County. The grass runway is 1600 ft by 60 ft. There are three planes based on the field.
