I went with the Canon T3 as the price is currently down on that model, I picked it up on Feb 1st, Now I am waiting for the weather to clear up so I can take it outdoors more often. I dont plan on doing any serious aviation photography with it for now unless I can get a 55-250 IS lens, but that wont happen for a while.

Great camera.  I've seen the 55-250 on sale a few times.  Seen a couple cheap ones used on Craigslist too.  It's a great lens.  Definitely recommend it for your T3.

How does the newer 55-250 compare to an older 75-300?

Also, would a tripod help while zooming in or out while shooting or will it be the same as just holding the lens and it still shakes?

I was able to spend a few minutes at the 100th Bomb Group last night(without my tripod), many of my shots came out kinda blurred since i was zoomed in all the way most of the time.(with my 75-300)

I think the 55-250 is better than the old 70-300. It also has image stabilization which may help you get some non blurred shots.

A tripod may help, but if you have a somewhat steady hand and short enough shutter speed, you should be able to get some good shots without.  The tripod makes it harder to follow the action sometimes.  A monopod might be better suited if you really think you need one.

Be sure to use a short shutter speed (or sport mode if you prefer the automatic modes). A higher ISO setting also helps youshort faster shutter speeds.
