Someone sent me this link that I thought was kinda interesting.  You can look up your old car brochures...pretty neat.  This was my first car, given to me by my folks for my high school graduation present, destroyed a year later while parked overnight by a crazy driver who also hit three other cars!:

Wow, those were cool!  I don't know how good they were, but I remember seeing a lot of them.  I think my Grandmother had one...?  A lot bigger than the car I had, that's for sure!

My first purchase was a 1971 Hillman Hunter for 50 GBP. It lasted me 4 months and did 2500 miles, 600 of them wih the tappets rattling! Still a bargain though!  You need to be a member to view our links. 1974/5 Hillman Hunter. Mine was a 1971 model.Laugh

I am no engineer but Wikipedia does a job of explaining what tappets are.

They get a wee bit noisy just before the engine blows up!

I think the US equivalent was the Chrysler Hunter.

A black 1973 Olds Cutlass Supreme. Got it used right out of high school in 1981. After a year, corrosion of the floorboard under the gas pedal left a hole. Kind of a small reverse sun roof. Great for keeping cool in the summer, hunk of carpet to keep snow & ice from spraying into the car during winter. After a few years did an upgrade to a tan 1974 Olds Delta 88 tank on wheels.

ok its offical. Yall are old! lol

My first car wasnt a car, it was a short wheel base conversion van, a 1985 Chevy G20 with a 305ci V8. Had a set of Holly 740 4 barrel carbs that gave it some extra punch (And some extra tank drain too). Whoever had the van added the carbs on it and a 32 gallon tank. Had'er for 2 years before the tranny went out.

Powered by a 330hp John Deere 6081H CNG fueled, turbocharged 8.1 Liter 6 cylinder engine connected to an Allison B400R6 six speed automatic transmission with built in retarder.
