I plan to use this lens with a Canon 60D for "aviation" photos - by which I mean birds, not planes.

I've read the reviews of this lens and they seem to be mixed. I'm not a professional photographer, but I like decent equipment and don't want to waste my money. Am I going to be happy with it for well under $200? Or is it just a toy?

Sorry for the delayed reply. I actually had this lens for a while. Most of my 2006-2007 photos are with this lens. It has good range at 300mm. Is it L Lens quality? no. But I feel it is a great lens for the price.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Awesome...it performed quite well I thought for the price. When you are ready get a Canon 70-200 L lens or if you really are after excellent quality you cannot go wrong with the 100-400 L lens from Canon, I have both and love them!!
