Apparently this F-18 crashed today during a practice session for the Lethbridge, Canada air show this weekend.  Amazing shots, and I hope the pilot recovers fully.

Did they say what caused the Hornet to be one with the pavement?

Thank God for Martin-Baker......

Does anybody know if those ejection seats are designed to propel the pilot not just up but to the left or right after an ejection? I was always worried to see the pilot land in the explosion after a low level bail out

I'm glad he was OK. It almost seemed as if the wing stalled. The photos are amazing.

I would guess he was doing a slow fly-by and one of the engines died from which he could not recover that low at such a low speed.

If I remember right, but not 100% sure, ejection seats will fire in any direction, it's the parachute which brings you upright a few moments later.
