Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) will temporarily close Runway 6R24L on March 1, 2011 for 56 hours in order to relocate both the pavement markings and two of the existing navigational aids.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

I saw that the runway was closed - now I know why! Cool that they are putting the EMAS on that runway.

Is the EMAS going to be placed at both ends, or just one? Will it shorten the runway or be placed beyond the current ends? Does anyone know?

The runway was back open today, so I don't know what's going on. I don't see how they can make that runway any shorter than it already is, so they must be adding to the ends, (although there isn't much room there, either!)

They are adding it on at the ends. CLE had to get a waiver from the FAA to operate such a short runway that close to other property. I assume this is a way to get around that. I think the most recent FAA authorization had the $$$ for that and the new tower.

The runway is officially re-opened now, but I have yet to see it used.  They also installed new approach lights on 28, but I don't know if they did 10 as well.
