Well guys finally made the MKE trip, after a very rough start last week.

First I did my jumpseats

Midwest Connect 1365 DAY-MKE E135 N11526
Midwest Connect 1342 MKE-FNT E135 N12530
Midwest Connect 1345 FNT-MKE E135 N12530
Midwest Connect 1367 MKE-DAY E135 N15527

We did a visual to Runway 25L into MKE each time, over the beautiful Lake Michigan...WOW
And on the flight back to DAY we flew right over Celina at 15,000...LOVED IT

MKE is a spotters heaven, not only do they have a large spotters area at the end of Runway 19R,, but the airport authority encourages spotting from the parking garage and are very proud of their airport.

Well after looking at the Gallery of Flight Museum in the terminal, which is worth visit alone, made a trek to the huge bookstore, which you would not find in any airport, this is used and antique bookstore, got the book, "Milwaukee Counties General Mitchell Airport, A Record of Progress", and the photos alone are worth the book itself. Then armed myself with 2 large bottles of water and up to the garage.

If flights are arriving 25L, the garage is perfect, the aircraft taxi right to to the gate infront of you,
for 19R, which they switched to toward the end of my stay, the viewing area is better, but you can still great shots of the Air Tran, US Airways, American, Skywest, United and of course, Midwest and Frontier

TONS OF EMB 170's/190's/E145's and 135's for Midwest and Frontier. Finally saw N271SK and N175HQ in full Frontier colors and they are beautiful, and the Midwest 170's and 190's are my favorite, beautiful colors

A trip to MKE is worth it if you are ever in the area

I LOVE that bookstore!!  I made a special trip some years back just to go there!!  Glad to hear its still in existence...they have a great selection of used and vintage books, and a large aviation section.  Maybe I'll have to go back again.
Yeah, MKE is one of the spotter friendly airports.  Don't you wish they all had something like that?

Chuck, I was shocked at the friendliness of the entire atmosphere. The Renaissance Bookstore was amazing, and the Aviation selection FANTASTIC

I still have 14 more rolls of film to get developed and go through from yesterday

Yes, the MKE folks are nice, and the bookstore?  Awesome!  Looking forward to more shots!

Thank you all for the heads-up about Renaissance Bookstore.  I was in MKE this past weekend.  What everyone has posted about this airport is true.  The people are friendly, the airport itself is great and there's a neat aviation museum that focuses on Milwaukee's rich aviation history right in the terminal (Billy Mitchell Gallery of Flight).

However, the bookstore alone would honestly be worth flying there (it has a wonderful atmosphere - you feel totally isolated from the hustle and bustle of the terminal.  It also has an amazing collection of just about every kind of book you'd ever want, at very reasonable prices).

I saw a wide variety of aircraft at Milwaukee.  Lots of interesting corporate jet traffic, regional jets from practically every airline, some international traffic (Lufthansa and Air Canada), FED EX and UPS heavy jets, WI. Air National Guard KC-135R tankers and a transient Navy E-6 were highlights of my trip.

I also have to plug the beer selection at "Billy's Cafe" within the terminal.  It has a great variety of Wisconsin micro-brews (i.e. Sprecher, Lakefront, Capital, etc.).  So, you certainly can enjoy the best that the "Beer City" has to offer while you wait for your flight.  All in all, it's worth your time to hit MKE.

Sounds great...the beer that is!  :occasion14:  Glad you got to visit the Renaissance bookstore...it's unlike any I've ever seen in an airport anywhere.  And I'd forgotten about the Mitchell museum.  If I recall correctly, there is also an aircraft hanging from the ceiling, but I can't remember what it is.

Good memory, Chuck.  There's a replica of a Curtiss Pusher hanging from the ceiling of the terminal.  There's also (appropriately) a B-25 Mitchell bomber that's located outside, at the airport terminal's entrance.

my wife is away on business, so i checked some fares,

I could fly there at 10:00am on a saturday, get there around 11:00am, and then spend 5 hours there and come back around 5:00pm.  about $168.

not to shabby really.

I'd second Chuck's suggestion.  If you're looking for a fun and quick trip, Milwaukee is well worth it.  You could easily spend five hours there and be well entertained.
