| Unknown (cn Unknown) June 18, 2011. At the Quechee Hot Air Balloon Festival in Quechee, VT, hot temperatures, high humidity, and little to no wind made for an interesting festival. As heard on the scanner, nearly all of the 30+ balloons ended up making emergency landings as they could not maintain lift. While balloon pilots are generally quite skilled at landing balloons wherever they want, that's not always an option and sometimes you take what you can get and count your blessings you're on the ground and not in the tree tops! This particular balloon managed to squeeze between the trees and set down on the road. Some balloons gently floated to the ground, despite full throttle on the torches; others dropped quite quickly. To my knowledge, no injuries have been reported. |
