44-89238 Before it was known as Wilmington Air Park, the field was under Military control as the Clinton County Air Force Base. From 1946 to 1948, the US Army Air Corp (to become the USAF in 1947) operated many different aircraft in various weather related research projects from this Ohio base. This P-47N-20-RE was the Squadron Commanders aircraft. The paint scheme consists of the typical red and yellow trim found on that unit\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s planes. I acquired this original picture for my collection, and despite its age has held up very well. The date of the photo is from Late 1946 to early 1947. |
