C-GHOZ (cn 24087) An Air Canada Boeing 767-300, registration C-GHOZ performing flight AC-810 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Istanbul (Turkey) with 220 people on board, was climbing out of Toronto when the crew was advised they had possibly blown a tyre. The aircraft stopped the climb at 16,000 feet, the crew reported a blown left main tyre and damage to the wing and returned to Toronto for a safe landing on runway 33R about 70 minutes after departure and stopped on the runway. The Canadian TSB reported the #2 tyre on the left main gear tyre had failed during the takeoff run. After landing the tyre was replaced on the runway and the aircraft taxied to the gate. Maintenance found that the tyre itself was holding pressure, however the recap had failed. There was damage to the upper secondary wing panels within the main left wheel well, the electrical harness of the left main gear was damaged, there was damage to the left inboard leading edge flap and tyre scuff marks underneath the L1 door sill. The aircraft was repaired, tyre #6 was replaced, too, in accordance with the aircraft maintenance manual. Tyre #2 was on its 4th recap which is the maximum number of recaps before the tyre has to be disposed.
