N607NA (cn 57-2507) Based on past (and future) postings, one can tell I really like the NASA F-106B. In this overhead picture, the airplane looks like it has quite a bad attitude! I guess if I could do Mach 2, I would have an attitude as well! Taken at CLE in 1979. Photo courtesy of the NASA Glenn Photo archives. |

N607NA (cn 57-2507) Seen in its last color scheme, this NASA F-106B served at NASA Lewis in Cleveland for many years. Note the row of civilian aircraft in the background under the left wing of the F-106. The area along the west side of the airport and south of NASA was a very interesting place back then. N607NA (cn 57-2507) This Convair F-106B Delta Dart arrivied to NASA Lewis Research in Sep 1972.The aircraft was registered as N607NA.Supplied to NASA for use as a system development aircraft, the aircraft stayed here for 9 years and was mainly used for solar cell and ocean color scanning tests. In 1981 it was transferred to Langley AFB,and in 1984 it was cut in half for use in full scale wind tunnel testing.......only two of these aircraft ever wore the NASA colors. First flight was in Dec 26,1956 and was regarded as the finest all-weather interceptor ever built for its time.... |
