Unknown (cn Unknown) Blue Angel #3 deploys his drag chute upon landing at Burke. The A-4 was designed to catch a cable on a carrier, or land at Naval bases with 9,000 ft runways- neither which required strong brakes. Since the Blues would fly out of many civilian airports with shorter runways, they added the drag chute to their aircraft to assure safe landing parameters. |

Unknown (cn Unknown) Blue Angel #6, the opposing solo, makes a low altitude transition takeoff in his A-4F at Burke Lakefront Airport. At the end of the runway, he will pull up and perform a half Cuban 8, returning from left to right at high speed. The Blues flew the "Super Fox" Skyhawk, so named because of a higher thrust power plant, enlarged intakes, and a lighter airframe resulting from much of its combat equipment having been removed. This gave the A-4F Super Fox a nearly one-to-one thrust-to- weight ratio, allowing for some spectacular performances. |
