N37505 (cn 42870) The cockpit of United Mainliner Sequoia taken at CLE in 1955. Used by NACA (later to become NASA in 1958) to study ice formation on aircraft, the ice recorder switch can be seen just over the left portion of the yoke. Just a bit of difference in technology from the glass cockpits of todays airliners. |

N37505 (cn 42870) A gorgeous shot of United DC-6 Mainliner Sequoia loading at gate 2 at CLE in 1955. Note the old control tower under the nose of the aircraft! This DC-6 was another aircraft used by NACA to test icing conditions while flying normal revenue trips with United Airlines.
