| N24DR (cn 393) The remains of a Convair CV-440-75 Metropolitan, as seen from the Ohio Turnpike a little over 72-hours after it crashed short of RWY 25 at Toledo Express Airport. The Convair first flew for Scandinavian Airlines System in 1957. Sadly, both crew members perished in the mishap. Words can’t describe the feeling as we responded to the call and I saw the flames as we crossed the runway! My crew & I tried desperately to extinguish the fire and locate the crew members. Flames were from the aircraft and several engulfed semi-trucks were intense and wide-spread. That and scattered debris made it difficult to advance through the wreckage. Sadly, we couldn’t help the crew. That’s the worst part of the job! Even though we train often for this type of response. Unfortunately, sometimes it's just not enough. | |||
