162897 (cn 0453/A371) (Best viewed at 1152 size.) Angel number five roars by in a high speed pass with a nice display of the Prandtl-Glauert Singularity, commonly called a transonic cone. Contrary to popular belief, these cones do not necessarily mean they are breaking the sound barrier, and are a popular subject among fluid-dynamacists.

162897 (cn 0453/A371) The weather this day was not the best for an airshow, but the Blue Angels performed a show that was low in altitude, but high in atmospherics! Here, Angel #5 banks after a high speed pass.

162897 (cn 0453/A371) My favorite shot of the series. The clouds formed by the Prandtl-Glauert singularity are due to the near-sonic amplification of the pressure and temperature perturbations which naturally occur whenever air passes over any bump or object.

162897 / 5 (cn 0453/A371) Coming in low from the left, Angel 5 screams down the runway showing the Prandtl-Glauert Singularity and condensation effect, which is the official name of the transonic cone that forms around an aircraft as it nears mach 1.

162897 / 5 (cn 0453/A371) Angel 5 on the takeoff roll with the five-mile crib visible out on the choppy waters of Lake Erie. The crib is the primary intake for the drinking water for the city of Cleveland. The five-mile portion of the name is a bit misleading as it is only 3.5 miles offshore. It is the pump line itself that is five miles long.
