| 44-65168 (cn 123-43754) Now designated as a F-82 (for the time frame the picture was taken in), this aircraft was based at NACA Lewis at Cleveland Municipal airport for many years. | 44-65168 (cn 123-43754) NACA Lewis in Cleveland operated this P-82 aircraft from 1950 to 1957 for various ramjet tests. Note the lettering on the aircraft under NACA-132 that reads National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, Lewis Flight Propulsion Laboratory, Cleveland, OH. This P-82 is a famous one, on February 27, 1947 with the aircraft name of Betty Jo, it flew non-stop from Hickam field, Hawaii to New York Laguardia in 14 hours and 33 minutes After serving at Lewis, the aircraft was retired to The National Museum of the United States Air Force and was displayed in the colors of Betty Jo. While looking like 2 P-51 aircraft sharing a common wing, the P-82 was actually a complete new design, though its similarity to the P-51 is quite apparent.
