N337BF (cn 0061) Tucked away in a quiet corner on the west side of the Wittman Regional Airport lies Basler Turbo Conversions. This is the place where they modify old DC-3s into turboprop-powered DC-3s. There is a veritable boneyard of old DC-3s but this is perhaps the rarest aircraft there. The Spectrum SA-550, also called the Basler Turbo 37, is a highly modified Riems FTB337G Milirole (the French-built international military version of the Cessna 337 Skymaster) with one Pratt & Whitney PT6. Basler was charged with modifying these FTB337Gs for the Thai Air Force, but I believe only two were completed with none of them entering service. |
