Hi All,

If you're wondering why I've been a bit quiet lately, it's because I finally got called to do my civic duty and will be on jury duty for the remainder of the week at least.  So please forgive me if I'm slow on approving pictures or not catching up with all your posts!

I can't tell you what it is, but I did get selected today to sit on a jury and won't be spending much time online for a bit.

This is my first time ever sitting duty, and it's been an interesting experience so far!  I'll fill you guys in on the details as soon as it's legal to do so!

Talk to you all soon!

Chuck

Congrats (Seriously)! One of the great civic duties/honors of our messy democracy. I think I only was called once and never made it past the phone number. Cry

Thanks.  We finished our first day today, and I do feel a real responsibility to do this correctly.  I have avoided the news, newspapers, and the internet (…as far as news goes), and I intend to keep it that way for the duration.  To be honest, I have no desire to cheat or to research the case even though I probably now have enough information to do that.  I feel it would be dishonest of me to do so, and I hope my fellow jurors follow the same principle.

I got home in time tonight to catch the last half hour of Judge Judy (!) while I checked on my emails.  When Judy ended, the news came on all the sudden and I changed that channel so fast it was almost funny.  I have no idea if my case is being followed by the media, but I don't want to find out!

For the first time in my life I have the opportunity to see how the justice system really works, and I feel I want to do it correctly and absorb as much of it as I can.  I've learned so much already, and we still have a long ways to go.  My fellow jurors seem to feel the same way.  I'll keep you guys posted!

Have fun!  It is interesting to learn about how our system works – as long as you're not on either side of a case!

Well, we just finished our third full day of trial and I'm still learning about, and for the most part impressed with, the way this whole thing works.  I must say though, I'm glad it's the weekend!  When it's all over I'll fill you in on all that transpired.

Consider yourself fortunate to have avoided endless months of trying to keep your lunch down while performing your civic duty at the Jimmy Dimora trial.

After my stint on a jury, I was favorably impressed by the judge, not so much by either the defending or plaintiff's attorneys. They pointlessly delayed and rehashed every point over and over and probably made the five day trial three days longer than it needed to be.

The case was a malingering civil servant AWOL from his job getting hit by a housewife with an infant in her car speeding the wrong way down a one-way street because she was late for a hairdresser appointment. During deliberations, we tried to think up a way to make both sides  lose. Cool
