None (cn None) Just to show you how up close and personal you can get at RAF Valley. That's right...no perimeter fence here, and yes, that's a crash net/barrier at the end of the runway! August 25, 2004

None (cn None) This is one of the bases where the planes in those famous shots flying through the valleys and mountains of Wales originate from. While the weather in the mountains was not conducive to that kind of flying when we visited, we did get to see some action around the base itself. August 25, 2004

XX280 (cn XX280) I wish I had the camera I have now back when I was here. Oh well, I'll just have to go back! Here we see this BAe Hawk as it rolls out after landing at RAF Valley on the Welsh coast. Far from being a hard place to spot at, it is actually encouraged here, and you can actually find a snack shop at the end of the runway which also happens to sell really cool t-shirts! Incidentally, this Hawk was once part of the Red Arrows demonstration team. August 25, 2004

XX236 (cn 312072) The mountains and valleys of Wales are famous for military plane photography. The Royal Air Force and others use these valleys to fly at low levels and high speed, all the while at eye level of the eager photographers perched on the hills. The day I visited these valleys, they were cloaked in fog, and no flying was being done there. We then visited the base at RAF Valley on the coast where the weather was much better and we at least got to see some flying. August 25, 2004
