No idea what it is.  Quickly grabbed my camera which had the not so fantastic 18-200 on it.  Still turned out ok I guess.

Cyanocitta cristata  AKA Bluejay (isn't there somebody here with one of these on a hat...?).  Good shots!  Hard to say if it's male or female; Chuck's definitely the guy to ask for that!

Those are nice shot Michi. I like the last one. Bluejays are pretty birds BUT they are scavengers. I have quite a few out here in Brunstucky along with Cardinals and a couple Goldfinches. I like birds, I have two feeders that are stocked in the winters and a nice bath set up in the summer months....

Very nice blue jay shots!  Quite a common bird actually, and always good to see.  You won't tell the males from the females though, since the sexes are nearly identical.  I wouldn't call them "scavengers" though...perhaps "opportunistic" is more appropriate!

I agree, that is a more PC way of labeling them..... I can appreciate their opportunistic approach, I guess there is a little bit of Cyanocitta cristata in all of us.

Don't forget that Blue Jays are quite aggressive when you get near their nest(s).  I was attacked by one in my own backyard when I was a child - darn thing landed on my head and pulled hair out from the roots.  I didn't go back into the tree-ed area for months afterward.

I saw a pair kill a squirrel once and another kill a grackle several times its size. Mean is an understatement.
