I've kind of kept this under my hat because I wasn't sure if this was where I was going, but I'm excited to say I'm going to LA!  I haven't been there in years, and this will be my first trip with a digital camera, so I'm stoked (am I too old to say that?) about getting some shots!

Furthermore, although I think it's ugly as all get out, there's a Qantas A380 scheduled in Sunday morning...this will be my first Dumbo sighting.

Funny thing...even though I'll have a car, my friends keep asking me if I'll leave the airport?  They act like they know me or something!

I'll post updates throughout...so keep yer eyes open!

See Ya!!

You are going on the exact day I went two years ago. I am jealous as hell. Of course you are leaving the airport as the best places are off property. If you are staying where I think remember the emergency stairs lead to oenings on the side of the building for good morning shots of aircraft. Enjoy!!!

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Well...I made it, and took 130 shots by the time I checked into my room!  I had a middle seat on the way here, so no en-route shots unfortunately, but at least I made it!

Parking sucks...had to pay $54.00 for the duration to park a block away, but the parking garage is great for spotting!  Gotta run now...too much to see and do!  More later!

There parking garage is still not done? They were starting construction two years ago when I was there. BUMS!!

I have such mixed feelings about that...thing.  Ugly, ugly, ugly, but wow does it ever amaze me that something that big can fly.  Lucky for Airbus aesthetics aren't a requisite for flight!  It will certainly be a great catch to spot it, though!

LA...man, Chuck, I'm jealous!

Last time I was in L.A. I spent my time chasing trains. LAX will be a must for my next trip.  VH-OQB has been on QFA11, QFA12 for most days in the past week. Good luck Chuck with the Super Airbus.

Man...I am ticked!  So, I get up at 0530 this AM so that I am good and ready to catch that A380, and it looks like it's a 747 today!!  Uck-fa!  However, flightaware shows that one LEFT here last night??? WTF?  Oh well...maybe FlightAware is wrong...sigh...

Anyway, gonna be a beautiful day here.  Need to find some brekkie and try to decide if I'm going to wear shorts or not!

I think today may be an In n Out Burger kinda day, and no...they have NOT completed the garage!  It's about six stories tall and appears to be at a stand still...

And the stairwell balconies here at the hotel are awesome.  Gotta drag myself away from them!

I cant believe that garage is not done.

I had to pry myself away from the stairwell balconies too every morning. But it was not too hard seeing that In N out and the hill was right around the corner.

You should wear pants maybe depending on the winds. One day we wore shorts and was fine at In N out but when we headed to Imperial Hill it was chilly since being closer to the Ocean and up higher. Have you been to the hill yet? Wow! We found a little pizza joint down the hill if you are looking for something close. It was good pie!! Enjoy!!

Oh and for breakfast there is a Ihop on the corner of Sepulveda and W Manchester which is just North of In N Out. We ate there a couple of mornings before heading out to In N Out.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Thanks for the tips!  I had a muffin and some juice, but I'm gonna need something more substantial here shortly.  And I hear you about the pants!  I went to the garage to get my car and wound up spending time taking some shots because there was a good mist in the air, but it just got thicker and thicker and the sea layer is so thick right now I can't see across the street!  It's been this way for an hour or more already.  Glad I had my pants on and a jacket with me!

I think I'll finally leave now and head for the hill and see what's up.  Maybe this will burn off or blow out by the time I get there!

OH!  While I was on the roof of the garage taking shots, the parking lot security guy came up to me and asked me if I had a permit!  I said, "for what?  To take pictures?"  and he said yeah, it was a "security issue."  I laughed and told the guy that I told the girl I was going to be taking pictures when I paid for five days of parking.  He wasn't snotty or anything and neither was I, but he said "okay, I'll talk to the supervisor" and he took off.  I was up there at least another 45 minutes after and nothing happened.  But geez...

Welcome to the LA basin marine layer.  Sometimes its there all day.    I've left my sister's place with sunny skies and 80 degrees only to find LAX shrouded in marine layer and 60 degrees.

I can always tell the tourists in LA.  They have shorts on!
