N1819U (cn 3119) United DC-10 on short final for 23L..I did not know when getting the info on this aircraft that this is sadly the United DC-10 that crashed while attempting an emergency landing at Sioux City,Iowa on July 19,1989.It was flt 232 from DEN-ORD and the tail mounted engine exploded and cutting off all hydraulics.. I am sure many of us remember that day and the live coverage on T.V.

I met a guy who was 10 years old on that final UAL 232 flight to Sioux City in 89..He was a cousin to the girl I was dating a couple years ago..I was pretty much lost for words when I met him and he talked about it..I couldnt help but notice the huge scars all over his arms and a couple on his face..What a historic shot this is.

A friend and former skycap at TOL has a friend who was a passenger onboard UA232 that day. That lady was sitting near the front of the coach cabin and survived relatively "unhurt."

Seeing this photo of this DC10 Friendship reminds me of Uniteds excellent commercials and jingles, they are still stuck in my head!

Great shot of the DC-10 in my favorite paint scheme. Thanks for the historical background on this plane. That's interesting but sad.

Wow...what an historic aircraft! I remember the incident well. Great shot, too.
