66-0177 (cn 300-6203) March 23, 2011. This Lockheed C-141C, known as the Hanoi Taxi, became world famous on February 12, 1973 when it was the first aircraft to touchdown in Hanoi, North Vietnam to repatriate American POWs. In May, 2004, the Hanoi Taxi once again made history when Maj. Gen. Edward J. Mechenbier, himself a POW of Vietnam, flew it back to Vietnam to repatriate the remains of two American service members killed in action. The aircraft is currently on display outdoors, but the museum plans to move it indoors pending the completion of a 4th hangar for the museum. |
