None (cn None) While the Battle of Britain was raging over London skies, this is how Cleveland (Ohio) Municipal Airport looked on August 21, 1940. American Airlines occupied the second hangar from the bottom. The main terminal occupied the lighter rectangular area on the upper third of the picture. Note how rural the surrounding area was at the time! A recent addition to my photo collection.

Those stories of the old airport would be great to hear. The best way to get your bearings from the old to new view is by looking at the old terminal building. That is where concourse C starts today. Still amazes me that this airfield was the center of the aviation world in the late 1930's.

This is so cool, I work with two guys who have both been in aviation for 30+ years, and who had family that worked at Cleveland even when this photo was taken. I showed this picture to them and got to hear some really cool stories. To give a little perspective, the road along the right side is not 237 but is kinda where Cargo rd. and the United maintenance ramps are currently.
