G-ADUY (cn S.816) G-ADUY "Capella" an Empire C Class flying boat seen in front of The Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor, Egypt. Capella was built in 1935 and served as a passenger and mail plane. Four years later, on March 12th, 1939, she crashed into an uncharted obstacle, in the harbour of Tandjong Priok, Batavia, (Netherlands East Indies)(Jakarta, Indonesia), under the command of Captain Hussey. Imperial Airways had her dismantled and shipped to England, but water damage precluded repair and she was written off. (Goldberg Collection) |
